Unrealistic expectations of women set by society and social media throughout the years During the 1950's men and women very much conformed to every expectation set by society. Subsequent to the great depression and world war two, America fought hard to make society peaceful, however they were not very successful. Gender roles and norms were set, women were seen only to be house wives and mothers whereas men were the main bread winners. Following World War Two, many women lost their jobs to soldiers returning to their position at work. A lot of efforts made in society were lost due to the fact most women had to return to their pervious stereotypical domestic duties. Many women stood their ground and expressed that they wanted to stay in the paid work place. It wasn't until the 1960's that society truly started to change and cultural changes were altering the role of women.
